Over the course of two months, this summer, visual artist Francisco Masó will loan six photographs from the Obtuse Exercises for Dissenting Bodies series for 15 days each to interested individuals in Miami-Dade County who request one for exhibition in their home.

Obtuse Exercises for Dissenting Bodies is a political art project oriented toward the research of positions assumed by dissident bodies in their relation with the police state. These positions are exercises based on the violent movements that take place in scenes of confrontation between the political forces of power and resistance groups of civil society.

Loan Conditions
The borrower is required to undertake all costs for transport and handling of artwork during the 15-day exhibition of the work. Requests are considered on an individual, first-come-first-served basis, and the decision to lend the artwork is based upon prior loan commitments of the requested artwork. A second loan in the same space is not allowed.
The first-appointed borrower will be able to select their first choice from the series. The second borrower will be able to choose their first choice from the remaining photographs and so on until all of the available photographs are chosen. Upon choosing a photograph on loan, borrowers will need to fill out the required paperwork.

How long is the loan period?
The loan period is 15 days.
Who can borrow an artwork?
Borrowers must be over 18 years of age and must reside in Miami-Dade County for this edition.
How many works can I borrow?
You can borrow only one work during this edition.
How do I select a work?
You can select from the available works when you arrive for pick-up.
Is there a loan fee?
No.
Do I transport and hang the work myself?
Yes. If you receive an artwork on loan, you are required to undertake all costs for transport and handling of the artwork.
Where do I pick up the work?
The borrower will arrange a specific time and date to pick up the artwork at Dimensions Variable.
Where do I deliver the work at the close of the loan period?
The borrower will arrange a specific time and date to deliver the artwork to Dimensions Variable.
I have a frame that I think my borrowed artwork would look much better in. Can I replace the frame?
No, you may not for any reason remove or replace the existing frame on a work you’ve borrowed.
How do I clean the artwork?
Gently dust the artwork with a dry cloth only. Do not clean with spray or water. If you think that the work needs to be cleaned, please contact us at [email protected].
I accidentally damaged the artwork. What do I do?
If a work is damaged while in your care, do not try to fix it yourself. Immediately contact us at [email protected].
I don’t like the artwork I borrowed. Can I return it and borrow another one?
You may return an artwork, but you may not replace it with a new one.
Can I return an artwork prior to the return period?
Yes. Please contact us at [email protected] to make the arrangements.
What happens if I don’t deliver the artwork on time after the 15-day period?
Failure to return the work on time will result in a one-time $25.00 fee.
What happens to the artwork once it is returned?
The condition of each work is assessed and compared to the condition it was in prior to the loan.
What is the value of the artwork on loan?
The estimated cost for each photograph is $$$$.

Francisco Masó
Two-time Cintas Foundation Fellowship finalist, Francisco Maso (Havana, 1988) is an Afro-Cuban, American visual artist living and working in Miami. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Stage Design from the Instituto Superior de Arte (Havana, 2014) and is a graduate of both the Behavior Art School (Havana, 2009), led by Tania Bruguera, and the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts (Havana, 2007). Recent exhibitions include Time for Change: Art and Social Unrest in the Jorge M. Pérez Collection at El Espacio 23 (2019), Cintas Foundation Fellowships Finalist Exhibition 2019- 2020 at Lowe Art Museum (2019), 10 – A Decade at Dimensions Variable (2019), Concrete Jungle: Narrative of Presence at Bridge Red Studios (2019), and Constructing Identity at Miami MOCAAD (2019). Maso is the cofounder of Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA), a nonprofit organization to research and promote the contributions of women and those identified as women in photography.
