Creating Our Own Reality
Creating Our Own Reality is taken from a quote by artist James Turrell—the original quote being “we create the reality in which we live.”
James Turrell is an American artist known for his work within light and space. Turrell has dedicated his practice to what he has deemed perceptual art, investigating the properties of light. As you experience a Turrell light work, your perception is shifted and your reality is altered through space, light, and color.
The quote is also a powerful affirmation of envisioning your own reality and a roadmap to achieving your goals. This all ties into the philosophy of GFA (Global Field Academy) to build self-determination, community, and responsible citizens through a holistic experiential choice education. GFA is a nonprofit built to support a home school community interested in Relational Learning and the One to One learning concept.
The artwork included in this exhibition was made by students as part of GFA’s collaboration with ICA Miami‘s School Initiatives Program. School Initiatives creates meaningful appreciation and study of artworks by utilizing art as a tool to make connections with math, science, reading, writing, literature, history and culture.
Special thanks to Morel Doucet, Angela Bolanos and the GFA Parent Art Collective for their support with this exhibition.

Global Field Academy
A project of Educate Tomorrow, Global Field Academy aka “Field” helps students and their families reach their maximum potential through global and Relational Learning. We provides a network of field-based micro-environments, coaching and experiences, all within a small, multi-age private home-school setting. Our “field guides” eliminate obstacles and provide opportunities for our students and their families to master their personalized academic and life goals.
Field prescribes two field days, and three workshop/enrichment days per week. This immersive approach allow students to meet academic, enrichment and family care coordination goals. Emphasizing an individualized democratic peer education and social experience, students explore academics and their life purpose through the community, service, mindfulness, professional studies, and interests. The project is lead and powered by Educate Tomorrow, and is operated in partnership with the Learning One to One Foundation.
