David Valiente
David Valiente is an ecosystem artist who applies the principles of ecology and systems theory to his artistic practice. Through his work, he seeks to preserve natural resources, reduce or eliminate harm, and support the restoration of the planet’s life forms and ecological systems. His practice reflects an understanding of the world as a network of interconnected and interdependent parts that must work together to create a healthier whole.
Valiente also considers himself a conceptual artist, as the ideas and messages expressed through his work take precedence over traditional criteria for evaluating art, such as beauty, technique, and craftsmanship. The message behind each artwork is central to his practice and serves as the primary inspiration for its creation.
Additionally, Valiente identifies as a human rights activist artist. His work advocates for human rights and addresses a broad range of social, psychological, spiritual, and environmental concerns. The themes explored through his sculptures include mental health, environmental protection, animal life and habitats, race, immigration, freedom, and spirituality. For Valiente, the struggle for human rights is ongoing and must be continually pursued through art, action, and conscious thought.
